Hunger Action LA – 2024 Statement of Accomplishments

In 2024, Hunger Action LA (HALA) advanced its mission to end hunger and promote healthy eating throughout Los Angeles County through impactful advocacy, education, and direct service. With the support of a dedicated full-time and part-time team, along with over 100 volunteers annually, HALA delivered key programs and expanded its outreach across multiple communities.
2024 Highlights & Achievements

CalFresh Outreach & Enrollment Expansion

Assisted hundreds of seniors, unhoused individuals, and other vulnerable populations to enroll in CalFresh, California’s monthly nutrition assistance program.

Advocacy & Anti-Hunger Education

Collaborated with low-income residents, nonprofit groups, and advocates to lobby for crucial anti-hunger legislation.

Played a key organizing role in Hunger Action Day in Sacramento.
Supported victories such as:
Increased SSI payments to low-income individuals.
Expanded CalFresh eligibility to nearly 1 million blind, senior, or disabled Californians.

Food Delivery Program

Delivered nearly 100,000 pounds of food to 200+ homebound households weekly in Koreatown, South LA, and surrounding communities.
Partnered with DoorDash and volunteers to deliver produce and prepared meals to seniors, blind or disabled individuals, and families in need.

Peoples Guide to Welfare, Health & Services

Continued development of the new 2025 edition of LA’s go-to resource for public assistance.
Prepared to launch an updated online PDF version ahead of print to broaden accessibility.

Blind and Low Vision (BLV) Program

Implemented the BLV program by pairing blind or low-vision residents with trained sighted volunteers for empowerment and access at farmers markets.

Looking Forward
With a growing reach and renewed commitments, HALA is set to launch the new Peoples Guide and deepen its roots in underserved communities throughout LA County in 2026.
