Shaffer's High Sierra Camp helps children and youth take another step toward becoming happy, health, well-adjusted adults through a summer program focusing not just on traditional favorites among summer camps like campfires and arts & crafts, but on non-competitive, wilderness adventure activities like rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and more.

The Camp helps children and youth increase their self-confidence through a Challenge-By-Choice philosophy, where the kids choose which activity to pursue and how far to take it while the camp provides the guidance and encouragement.

Shaffer's High Sierra Camp also offers specialized program tracks in rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and outdoor living skills (backpacking), on which participants can focus to increase their knowledge and skills.

Located on the peaceful headwaters of the North Yuba River in California's splendid Tahoe National forest, the summer camp is adjacent to the Lakes Basin Recreation area with dozens of pristine mountain lakes and miles of hiking, biking and horse trails.  Occupancy is limited to just 70 boys and girls aged 8 to 17, ensuring no child is left out or forgotten.

This summer camp is accredited by the American Camp Association, complying with about 300 health and safety standards ranging from emergency preparedness, staff selection, screening and training, program design and operation, transportation, and food handling safety, among other things.

Unique among summer camps, Shaffer's High Sierra Camp offers a tuition-back guarantee if a child does not have fun.
