About Industrial Device Investments
We are a private investment firm headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, built around a singular focus: manufacturing and industrial technology companies in North America. Unlike conventional private equity firms driven by leverage and exit timelines, we operate on a philosophy of patient capital — making thoughtful, logic-driven investments in businesses we genuinely understand, guided by operators who have lived the work firsthand.
What Sets Us Apart
Our tagline — *Patient Capital Led by Logic, Not Timelines. Operator-to-Operator.* — isn't just positioning. It reflects how we actually engage with our portfolio. We partner with entrepreneurs, families, and corporations navigating buyouts or complex situations, bringing operational expertise alongside capital. We're explicit about who we aren't: not venture capitalists chasing startups, not turnaround specialists comfortable with red ink, not micromanagers hovering over every decision. Our value is in stable, focused partnerships with companies that have a solid foundation and room to grow.
Our Investment Criteria
We invest exclusively in companies with revenues between $5–40 million and EBITDA of $0.75–3 million (up to $6M with Partners). Our industry focus spans industrial machinery, sensors and measuring equipment, flow and process control, and electrical and electronics — markets we know deeply and invest in deliberately.
Our Portfolio
Our current portfolio reflects this focused approach across a range of industrial niches:
- Perceptics (Knoxville, TN) — Manufactures high-accuracy license plate readers and optical systems, with capabilities in image processing, OCR, pattern matching, data analytics, and machine learning.
- MRF (Allenstown, NH) — Designs, manufactures, and services industrial high-temperature vacuum and controlled atmosphere furnaces for ceramics, electronic components, and lab testing.
- Proton Power (Lenoir City, TN) — Manufactures clean energy systems converting biomass feedstocks into synthetic fuel or electricity, along with carbon biochar and graphene products.
- Tread Corporation (Roanoke, VA) — Manufactures trucks for bulk explosives, emulsion/ANFO mix plants, control systems, and explosives storage for global mining and construction industries.
- Wasik (Dracut, MA) — Designs and manufactures custom electron beam processing systems, including self-shielding and concrete vault designs, machine components, and system servicing.
- SIDUS (San Diego, CA) — Designs, manufactures, and services integrated security and video surveillance systems for energy, nuclear, scientific research, military, and petrochemical sectors.
We also maintain an invested partnership with UNTAPPED, focused on artificial intelligence and lean R&D, and have a track record of successful exits, including Covington Industries, Tucker Millworks, and Sunbelt Packaging LLC.
Our Team
Our leadership team brings decades of combined experience across operations, finance, legal, marketing, and industrial manufacturing. We are seasoned professionals who have led and grown companies firsthand — and that operator perspective informs everything we do.
Our Commitment to Community
Beyond portfolio performance, we are committed to community impact through the Perceptics Foundation, which triples employee monetary giving and volunteer time — surpassing $1.5 million in employee-sponsored contributions. It's a values-driven commitment that reflects our broader belief: building great companies and strong communities aren't competing goals.
