About

Founded 32 years ago, the Icla da Silva Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping underserved patients navigate the challenging journey to receive a life-saving bone marrow transplant. We focus on individuals from low-income and diverse backgrounds, providing support through financial, logistical, and emotional challenges during their treatment. A bone marrow transplant offers a cure for blood cancer, sickle cell, and other life-threatening blood disorders. Treatment should not cause financial instability for a family struggling to survive.

Financial Support
Our patients are from low-income households, so the financial barriers they encounter can be debilitating. We fund expenses that are not covered by their medical insurance, but necessary during treatment. For patients who demonstrate a financial need, our Icla Cares program can provide financial assistance as they work through their bone marrow transplant treatment.

Emotional Support
We understand the challenges that bone marrow transplant candidates are met with during search and treatment. We work with patient families one on one to ensure they don't feel alone on their difficult journey.

Logistical Information
We assist families with strategies to recruit potential donors. We also help them navigate the confusing medical care system. Additionally, we refer patients to various treatment centers across the country depending on the patient’s condition, so that different medical opinions can be taken into account.
