J-NET Warnings, LLC was officially formed as a Kansas Company in 2008. We manufacture a new type of civil defense siren that operates on compressed air. Initially the concept for this siren design began in 2001 when a town in Kansas was hit by several tornadoes but was not able to adequately warn the public. The sirens could not operate because the preceding storm disabled their power and the city’s sirens did not have power back-up systems. Additionally, because of low funding and limited resources, we understand that it is nearly impossible to fully maintain some siren systems.
With the realization that even if most towns have a functional siren system they may not be able to afford the optional power back up systems to operate it during a power outage. Furthermore, many siren systems require specialized maintenance and parts to keep them functioning. Our idea to create a new siren that could operate without power or large banks of batteries, and be easy to maintain addresses these needs.
In June of 2009 we installed our first siren system prototype as a pilot project in Oak, Hill, KS. We received our patent in September of 2010 and are continuing to develop variations of our system to meet the needs of communities everywhere.
