About

Chosen is a Christian nonprofit ministry based in southeastern Wisconsin that exists to support, strengthen, and connect foster, adoptive, and kinship families. At the heart of our mission is The Family Closet—a vital program that provides tangible resources to children in care and the families who love them.

Through The Family Closet, families can access essential items completely free of charge, including clothing, shoes, diapers, baby gear, toys, books, hygiene items, school supplies, and sensory supports for children with special needs. We understand that caring for children from hard places comes with unique challenges and urgent needs. Our goal is to help alleviate some of those burdens by ensuring families have what they need—when they need it.

But our support doesn’t stop there.

With more than 6,000 children in Wisconsin’s foster care system and a growing need for safe, nurturing homes—especially for sibling groups and children with special needs—Chosen actively raises awareness about fostering and adoption. We speak at community events, churches, and partner organizations to educate the public and encourage more families to explore the foster and adoptive journey.

In addition to providing practical support and advocacy, Chosen fosters connection. We host regular Family Outreach events—free, family-friendly gatherings where caregivers and children can relax, have fun, and build relationships with others who understand their unique experiences. These events are a vital part of creating a support network and combating the isolation many caregivers feel.

As a Christian ministry, Chosen is grounded in the belief that every child is worthy of love and belonging, and every family walking this journey deserves support, encouragement, and hope. Our faith motivates us to serve selflessly, love abundantly, and build up families through both action and compassion.

Looking ahead, Chosen is working toward a bold vision: the development of a multi-family foster community. This future housing initiative will offer reduced-cost living for new foster families, providing a stable place to land while they prepare for long-term housing. It will be a space of shared experience, encouragement, and growth—furthering our commitment to walking alongside families from the very beginning of their journey.

Since our founding in 2015, Chosen has grown from a single-location Family Closet to a multi-faceted organization serving hundreds of families across southeastern Wisconsin. From our flagship site in Waukesha to our Mobile Family Closet program and second location in West Allis, we are committed to removing barriers, meeting needs, and building community—one family at a time.
