Weaver offers courses on American history, women's history and the history of medicine. Her research interest focuses on the history of healers.
Her first book, _Medical Revolutionaries: The Enslaved Healers of Eighteenth-Century Saint Domingue_, was published by the University of Illinois Press in 2006. In 2011, her book, _Medical Caregiving and Identity in Pennsylvania's Anthracite Region, 1880-2000_, was published by Penn State Press. Weaver also serves as the coordinator of the Women's Studies Program.
