About

Liberia Global Health & Surgery Consortium (LGHSC) is a physician and healthcare worker-led consortium dedicated to strengthening Liberia’s health and surgical systems through education, research, clinical service, digital innovation, partnerships, and equity.

LGHSC was established to address a critical gap in global health: the need for long-term, locally led systems strengthening, particularly in surgical and specialty care. Rather than focusing on short-term service delivery, the consortium invests in people, institutions, and infrastructure that support sustainable, high-quality care.

The consortium operates as a neutral, multi-institutional platform, bringing together independent clinicians, educators, academic partners, and aligned organizations to collaborate in support of national priorities and locally defined goals. This model enables ethical partnership, shared governance, and flexibility—without institutional dominance or parallel systems.

LGHSC’s work is guided by six strategic pillars:

Education & Training: advancing standardized curricula, simulation-based learning, and workforce development for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals

Systems Strengthening & Sustainability: supporting hospital infrastructure, safety, quality improvement, and responsible integration of digital health tools

Research & Innovation: conducting collaborative research and building local capacity for data governance, analytics, and ethical innovation

Clinical Service Integration: strengthening multidisciplinary care, integrated pathways, and perioperative safety systems

Partnership, Governance & Equity: prioritizing Liberian leadership, gender equity, diaspora engagement, and nationally aligned collaboration

Community & Global Impact: engaging local and diaspora communities and contributing to a replicable model for regional surgical sustainability

LGHSC works in close coordination with health institutions, academic partners, and government stakeholders, with a strong commitment to alignment with Liberia’s national health priorities.

Vision
A self-sustaining, high-quality, and equitable health system in Liberia where global health collaboration strengthens surgical subspecialties, supports allied health professions, and empowers locally led excellence across the entire continuum of care.
