The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas is dedicated to the mission of improving the quality of life for African American youth and families while enhancing educational and economic opportunities in the community. As part of the global 100 Black Men of America network, the Las Vegas chapter embodies the “Four for the Future” model, which focuses on Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness, and Economic Empowerment. Through a wide range of programs and partnerships, the organization provides mentorship, leadership development, scholarships, and community service projects that create a pathway to success for students and young professionals.
One of the cornerstone initiatives is the Youth Mentoring Program, which connects experienced members with students from elementary school through high school. Mentors provide consistent guidance, academic support, and character development, ensuring that youth have the tools to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. The Rites of Passage Empower Our Sons Program is another signature initiative. This ten week workshop series is designed for young men ages twelve to sixteen and covers topics such as responsibility, leadership, personal growth, and cultural pride. Graduates of the program leave with stronger self confidence and a deeper understanding of their identity and responsibilities as young men.
The organization also promotes financial literacy and professional growth through the Youth Economic Empowerment Club, which introduces students ages fourteen to eighteen to the value of money, banking, budgeting, entrepreneurship, and long term financial planning. This club ensures that participants gain practical knowledge about building wealth and making informed financial decisions. Complementing this effort, the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas provides scholarships to deserving students who meet academic and leadership criteria. These scholarships serve as critical support for students pursuing higher education and align with the organization’s mission of expanding educational opportunities.
Health and wellness is another key area of focus. The chapter leads programs that emphasize the importance of physical health, mental health, and preventive care. Through workshops, partnerships, and community outreach, students and families are educated on maintaining balanced lifestyles and addressing health disparities that disproportionately affect communities of color.
The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas also invests in leadership development at the university level through the UNLV Collegiate 100. This program engages college students in mentoring, community service, and professional development. Members of the Collegiate 100 work closely with younger students, serving as role models while also gaining leadership skills that prepare them for careers and civic engagement. This bridge between professional members and collegiate students strengthens the pipeline of future leaders who are committed to service and excellence.
Another important initiative is the Pathways to Public Safety Program, which introduces youth to careers in civil service and public safety fields such as law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, and related public sector careers. This program not only broadens career awareness but also fosters trust and positive relationships between young people and public institutions.
Beyond these structured programs, the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas actively participates in community engagement projects. These include youth leadership conferences, voter registration drives, and cultural events that celebrate history and heritage while inspiring civic participation. The organization partners with schools, businesses, and community groups to amplify its impact and ensure that its programs reach those who benefit most.
In every initiative, the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas embodies the principle of “What They See Is What They Will Be.” By modeling excellence, providing guidance, and creating opportunities, the organization empowers youth and families to achieve their fullest potential. Through mentoring, education, health and wellness, economic empowerment, scholarships, and leadership programs like the UNLV Collegiate 100, the chapter continues to shape the next generation of leaders who will uplift the community and drive lasting change.
