About

I was born in 1967 and grew up in Yorkshire, England. My father set up his own business when I was 4 and this was a big part of family life.

I went Leeds Grammar School when I was 8 and left at 18 to take a Business degree at Manchester University.

Unfortunately the degree proved useless when I joined the family business in 1989! It simply didn’t give me any skills that could be applied running a small company.

In 1996 I took over the running of the business when my father retired.

The first years were very profitable but then we had a really tricky time post the dot com crash and loss of confidence in the large companies we were selling to…businesses like Kelloggs and Coca-Cola.

I down-sized to get back to reasonable profit.

I went on every course going and read hundreds of books, had coaches…doing everything that I could and tripled the profit.

I have written this book to share the strategies that helped me do that:

• How you can get more done in your day and get more from your staff.

• The practical actions you can take to cut costs.

• How I turned 32% of our sales letters into appointments of leads, converted those leads, drove a three fold increase in average order value and got more leads coming in fast. I’ve tried everything hundreds of tactics and if it didn’t work it’s NOT in the book.

I’m also writing this book because I want to help you with the emotional side of running your business.

Some of us worry about our businesses.

It’s my mission to help other small business owners choose their mood more so they can be happier today and richer tomorrow.

Because once they are happier, they’ll be in a better place to make more money.
