In Maine's Kennebec Valley, MD3 provides two vital, no-cost services: on-scene patient care from emergency medicine-trained EMS physicians and advanced continuing education for local EMS professionals. EMS crews request MD3 for their most challenging cases—incidents requiring physician-level medical control, care and equipment beyond standard protocols, or on-site treatment that may prevent a trip to the emergency department. In 2025, MD3 is transitioning to an independent non-profit funded by grants and public donations. This model allows the organization to provide its critical services completely free of charge, ensuring physician care is available on scenes when
it's needed most and EMS professional received valuable continuing education.
