About

Maer is the brand that announces that this will be a line of clothing for any and all women who want to dress to impress and are not afraid to express themselves or their strength through their clothing choices.
The line is co-founded and designed by Donna Kang and Megan Wall, who hale from brands including Michael Kors, Timo Weiland, Donna Karan, and Carolina Herrera.

The impetus for the line came about through Wall and Kang’s observations about and conversations with various women they admire and respect.  They noticed a large gap in the market while dressing friends, family, and clients for special events who were not the typical sample size.

“I remember my mother admiring outfits but then saying things like ‘I could never find that in my size,” recalls Wall. “I never understood it growing up, but working in fashion, I realized that, no, there really is no consideration for people like her.”

Kang had her own epiphany: “We had re-designed the uniforms for Crowne Plaza hotels from sizes two to 20, and I learned the women were taking the slacks home to wear out because nothing else looked as good.”

Maer is designed and produced in Portugal, with the initial collection launching online in the U.S. market (https://maer.co). The company’s DTC-only model cuts out excessive markups and provides customers designer garments at half the retail price. The collection is made in women-run factories with expertise in curve-size pattern making.

The duo approach each design from the inside out while being thoughtful about the way clothes are proportioned on a woman’s body. Carefully designed linings offer extra support and breathability while creating a smoothing silhouette. Kang and Wall meticulously fit each item on a size 14 model—the average size of a woman in the United States. Fit is flexible for many items thanks to carefully placed buttons, hook-and-eye closures, and adjustable wrap ties.  At each fitting Kang and Wall asked themselves, “Is this comfortable and is this something I want to wear and move around in?”

Sensational long, metallic, wrap skirts and matching draped bodysuits with elongated cuffs offer versatile drama.  Sumptuous Italian jerseys were tested for quality, comfort, and wear. Even the sequins feel incredibly easy. Maer styles are statement pieces, meant to be seen. Meant to be danced in--all night long!--while feeling cozy like luxurious pajamas.

The standard of beauty is not tied to a size. The future of fashion is inclusive. Maer is a new kind of luxury.
