About

Maria Vyasa is a practicing psychotherapist and teacher of classical yoga philosophy who brings a unique scholarly perspective to mystical experience. With two decades of clinical practice and teaching experience, she bridges the gap between therapeutic understanding and authentic spiritual encounter.

Born a mystic, Maria had her first mystical experience at age five. These experiences have continued throughout her life, shaping her path as both healer and seeker. Rather than accepting these encounters at face value, Maria chose to understand them through rigorous study of mystical traditions.

Her approach stands apart from popular spirituality. Maria grounds her work in comparative religious scholarship, drawing from Buddhist, Hindu Tantric, and Judeo-Christian mystical traditions. She trained in classical yoga and yoga philosophy, studying at institutions including Kaivalyadhama in India under O.P. Tiwari. Her background also includes classical Indian dance (Odissi) and years of dedicated spiritual practice.

As a psychotherapist, Maria understands the human psyche and the healing journey. As a mystic, she knows firsthand the transformative power of spiritual experience. This dual perspective allows her to speak about mysticism with both scholarly precision and lived authenticity.

Her book, “Kundalini – A Baptism of Fire: The Journey of the Mystic,” represents years of research and personal exploration. In it, she decodes the symbolic language used across mystical traditions to describe spiritual awakening. The work examines cross-traditional themes—baptism by fire, death and resurrection, divine light, the path to truth—through both academic rigor and personal testimony.

Maria lives her work, maintaining daily spiritual practice while serving clients in her therapeutic practice and teaching yoga philosophy. She demonstrates that mystical experience belongs not only to the past, but continues to emerge in those who seek truth with dedication and courage.
