About

MedSpan2, the enhanced program, is designed for medical personnel (physicians, nurses, lab personnel and others) who need to  conduct medical interviews and examinations with patients whose language is Spanish.
MedSpan was developed to be used as part of a course taught at the University of California, Davis, to Medical students and students in the Master of Public Health programs.   The course has been taught for over thirty years to prepare students to better serve the many patients in California who speak only Spanish or have limited English in order to facilitate accurate communication.
The app includes the entire "Review of Systems," a special section for diabetics and their families, patient instructions for physical exams and common medical procedures, as well as questions on family health and medicines/drugs and anatomical diagrams for easier explanations.  The students use the app as an assist when they work at the outlying clinics which specialize in working with specific local populations.
To allow practitioners ease of use, most of the questions are presented in a "yes/no" format with “touch yes/no” answers or short text fields.  The user also has ability to attach notes for more detailed reporting.
MedSpan can also be set up and used in reverse by Spanish-speaking medical workers who treat English-speaking patients and has been used already in several Spanish-speaking countries.
