About

Metro Aerospace, LLC, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, USA, is the exclusive global manufacturer and provider of the Microvanes® technology patented by Lockheed Martin. The Microvanes bring performance enhancement and cost reduction to both military and commercial operators for the C-130/L-100 aircrafts, and other rear cargo airframes with similar steep aft ramp design.

Microvanes are small aerodynamic components that are surface mounted to the fuselage of the aircraft effectively reshaping the air flow around the aft cargo door, reducing the total drag on the aircraft and in turn reducing fuel and thrust requirements.

Tested over ten years, data shows that the addition of the Microvanes provide on average more than three percent fuel savings, extended time in flight, and significant reduction on inboard engine wear. This intense flight testing has been conducted to optimize the Microvanes effectiveness and to verify no adverse impact on airdrop operations from the ramp or paratroop door.

Microvanes deliver value:
     Significantly reduced fuel consumption
     Extended time on mission, increased range
     Increased payload capability
     Reduced inboard engine wear
     Widened engine maintenance window
     Reduced take-off and landing cycles
Green – environmentally focused:
     Retrofits to existing aircraft extending aircraft life
     Reduces harmful emissions with light-weight material & lower fuel burn

Pricing and Installation:
Affordably priced at $125,000 per ship set with volume order discounts negotiable, Microvanes are proven to be the most cost effective drag-reducing enhancement available for the Hercules fleet.
Installation can be completed in one day with attachment adhesive and a specialized installation tool either at a C-130 Service Center or on location.

The installation tool retails at $55,000 and is reusable; training is provided upon request.

Microvanes leverage Additive Manufacturing processes and are quickly made available with standard lead time of four to six weeks of order placement.
