Local Mom Battles the Rising Costs of Childrens Clothing
Consignment Sale helps Families Save Money on Children’s Gear.
The cost of outfitting a child this school year has risen as back to School costs continue to rise.
According to the Huntington Bank Backpack Index, back to school expenses rose an average of 6% this year compared to 2011. Add that 6% to the 15% increase from 2010 to 2011, and you have a 21% increase in the past two years to send your children to grades K-12. Three of the top 4 items that will cost more this year are clothing items. Due to the increasing costs of cotton, products like shoes, shirts and denim are three of the four that top the list.
Moo La La Boutique’s consignment will help families turn outgrown, gently-used children’s clothing and gear into cash. During the event consignors receive 65-80% of the selling price of their children’s items. On average a consignor will receive between $150 - $300 for selling their gently – used items with us.
While consigning will bring cash to families, shopping the event is also beneficial. Shoppers receive steep discounts on name brand children’s gear. On average items can be found at 20-50% off the original retail price. Many of the items found at the event are brand new, with tags and still less than half of retail cost.
Everyone wins at consignment events like Moo La La Boutique. In addition to consignors making money and shoppers saving money, the community also wins. Each sale, Moo La La sends left over donations from the sale directly into the hands of those who need it. The charities chosen for this sale are, The Children’s Resource Network (a community partnership that works together as a team to help the disadvantaged children and struggling families in our community.) and CareNet of Santa Maria (Our mission is to help in tangible, practical ways; to counsel without judgment; and comfort those who come to us.)
Moo La La is expecting families from several local communities to consign during the Fall Sale. Items will be sold from areas such as: Santa Maria, Orcutt, Lompoc, VAFB, Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo, Buellton and others.
Moo La La Boutique adds a new twist to the children’s consignment industry by featuring local mom-based businesses geared towards children and family. When we all come together as a community, it helps strengthen our local economy.
This will be Moo La La Boutique’s first sale held on the central coast, in the well-known Santa Maria Town Center Mall, in Santa Maria. This is the first Consignment Sale of its kind in the area and we have over 7,000 square feet to fill! We feel the public will truly embrace this form of “recycling” and saving money.
Moo La La Boutique is hosting their Fall Sale October 5th – 7th. Visit www.MooLaLaBoutique.com for information on consigning, volunteering or shopping this event.
