About

Parents, we urge you to read this important post. We are all aware that one of the most prevalent issues that society is facing is the spread of coronavirus. This novel unprecedented virus has changed the lives of countless people.

Dr. LaVern R. McCants, a fearless author with a doctorate in education, parent advocate, School Improvement Consultant, motivational speaker, and former educator, stated that “it is remarkable that many schools are choosing to provide remote learning; this is something that should take place in every school.” She also states that “the foremost important thing that school officials should do is to provide safety for students and ensure school personnel safety. According to McCants, the New York Times August 1st issue reported that Greenfield Central Junior High School in Indiana that reopened on July 30 was required to quarantine students within hours of reopening. School officials became aware that a student from their student body had tested positive for coronavirus. Also, McCants stated that according to the Business Insider, Washington Post, and Huff Post 260 campers between the ages of 6 and 17 who attended an overnight summer camp in Georgia are infected with the coronavirus. She stated that silence on the issue of reopening schools is no longer an option. As adults, it is essential to be proactive to ensure that no more schools reopen; instead, to demand that remote learning is the only learning option.”

McCants stated, "ban schools from opening in the 2020-2021 school year until there is a proven cure for coronavirus which causes COVID-19." Dr. McCants stated that in school environments, students' safety is the first and most significant concern. She stated that opening school doors are putting students, school personnel, and students' families and the families of school personnel at-risk.

McCants stated that “coronavirus will continue to spread with the reopening of schools massively. McCants also stated that the ideal solution is remote learning for all schools.” McCants provides sound solutions to effectively educate children and adolescents through remote learning until the coronavirus and COVID-19 is no longer a risk factor for children, adolescents, teachers, educational leaders, and all other school personnel.

Dr. McCants urges parents to be proactive and to challenge their child's school board by demanding remote learning until the pandemic is over if remote learning is not an option at their child's school during this pandemic. She stated that parents should state to their child’s local school district board that reopening schools are unacceptable. Also, she stated that “besides the students' safety, that it is essential to have regard for the dedicated school personnel who work tirelessly to educate their students. Dr. McCants is hopeful that remote learning is a reality at all schools within the upcoming weeks.”McCants believes that it is unjust and impractical for children, educators, and support staff to hold school sessions in a traditional educational setting without putting people at risk. She argues that it is not realistic that students would consistently stay 6-feet away from their peers at all times while at school, going to school, and coming home from school. McCants adds, "this is senseless behavior to put children and adolescents at-risk. McCants says that this is unjust to students and school personnel and that no one deserves their lives and health at risk. She says that students do not have a voice, but parents do."  McCants stated “opening schools in the traditional school environment during a pandemic put people's lives and health at risk. It is unjust to children, adolescents, teachers, school administrators, support staff, and the families of all mentioned. Dr. McCants also says that just one person infected by the virus is too much! Schools are a hot spot. Lives are precious. Let us make good choices and put a stop to the individuals that are demonstrating senseless behavior. School personnel, including teachers, school administrators, and support staff, will still do a fine job of educating children and adolescents remotely, but it is essential to utilize sound solutions to slow down the coronavirus spread massively infecting more people. Let us make good choices and do whatever is necessary to save lives and keep people healthy. What is more important than this?"

Dr. McCants is asking parents not to send their children back into a traditional school, but demand remote learning because the risk is too high. She is asking that action is followed through because of concerns of the following:

 negligence claim for the safety of children and adolescents
 unjust consideration for educators
 putting millions of people at risk, including students, school personnel and families of both students and school personnel, by the risk of spreading the virus by opening schools too soon.
