Love Your Pet Expo is Hosting a Play Day for Animals and Their 2-Legged Friends

Natural Balance, PETCO, and Nutro are sponsoring this year’s expo, starting with a pet parade, led by the Anderson High School flag team, who are helping out to raise money for a trip to Disneyland.

Shasta District Fairgrounds (Briggs St. & Hwy 273), in Anderson, is where the local animal lovers will be on Saturday, April 5, 2008. 3,000 pet people are expected to join the festivities this year, with many of them marching with their costumed critters in the Welcome Parade, starting at 9:30 AM.  Complete information is available at LoveYourPetExpo.com.

The purpose of the show is to educate the public while having fun with family and pets. Local area and Internet resources will be offered for pet health and safety, grooming, training, and recreation. Non-profit organizations will offer free literature on animal rights, emergency services, rescue and adoption, and wild animal concerns.

This year, Lassen Hall will be known as the Natural Balance/Petco Pavillion. That’s where dogs can show off their skills at Rally Obedience, Flyball, and Agility. They can also win prizes at the shell game and “Smartest Dog” competitions.

Vendors, sponsors, and advertisers will share their goods and services through exhibits, door prizes, giveaways, literature, and demonstrations. Booth space is still available.

Demonstrations will be offered throughout the day, including doggie dancing, search and rescue, and animal massage techniques. Anderson High School jazz band will perform and there will also be a kids’ craft workshop for easy-to-make pet toys, handouts, and coloring pages to take home.

The barn will boast llamas, miniature donkeys, miniature horses, goats, and Cow Pie Bingo, with Sammy, the miniature steer.

In the afternoon there will be a charity auction, with all proceeds divided among local rescue organizations, Shasta Wildlife, Another Chance Animal Welfare League, and Forever Pets. Donations of pet food and merchandise are welcome and may be brought to the show.

Food vendors, Mary’s Place and Surf City Squeeze will offer yummy philly steak sandwiches, teriyaki bowls, and smoothies, plus other snacks and beverages.

Founder, Katie Ball, says” The biggest hits of the 2007 expo were the pet-participation activities, so this year we're going to expand that theme and combine Love Your Pet Expo with a Love Your Pet "Play Day." The expo will still be a Saturday-only event, but we're expanding to more buildings and a barn to accommodate all the activities inside. Let it rain! It just won't matter.”
