About

Project Minikin is a social networking website for children that is designed with the safety and well being of children in mind. We take child protection very seriously and have made this our number one goal.

The ever expanding internet is exciting, but is also a very scary place for our children to be. The threat of child predators or unsuitable content is ever constant and all parents worry about this when children are online. Project Minikin understands this threat, and tries to help parents eliminate these threats while within the website.

We believe that our website offers ways of protecting children that other social networking sites do not. Firstly, each account has two separate logins. One for the parents, and another for the child. Even if your child changes their password, you still have your own for access to the account.  Everything your child does is kept in a log for you to monitor and review. Beyond that, before your child can view any incoming messages or friend requests, you must first view and approve them. This means that NO ONE can contact your child without your permission, and serves as an excellent way to keep dangerous people away from your child. It also means that even people who are friends with your child will not be able to send unsuitable content. Furthermore, messages that contain explicit language are automatically censored through word filters. Another unique feature is that unlike other popular social networking websites, no information is shared to anyone that is not a member of our website; only limited information is shared with people who are not friends (only enough information to be able to identify friends when searching for them). Any information or picture that is shared by a child must first be approved by the parent in order to keep a child from accidentally sharing personally identifiable information.
