About

Somali and American Fund for Education (S.A.F.E.) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to increase access to K-12 education in Somalia. S.A.F.E. establishes partnerships with local communities to build and improve schools. S.A.F.E. uses rigorous selection criteria including a community-vetting process to select schools to support. S.A.F.E. ensures communities are vested in school sustainability by analyzing the level of community support and by requiring each school to fundraise one-third of the construction cost from their local and Somali Diaspora communities. S.A.F.E. also partners with local universities in order to implement the S.A.F.E. Certification Program, which certifies selected schools for accountability and helps build their capacity to effectively implement construction projects. S.A.F.E.’s partners also conduct frequent site visits to schools and submit progress reports to closely monitor its projects. S.A.F.E. believes that access to education for children is the most critical component to combat the challenges facing Somalia today.
