About

The Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) is a nonprofit organization representing over 50 leading research institutions in the southeastern United States. Founded in 1980, SURA works to advance collaborative scientific research, strengthen higher education partnerships, and manage large-scale research infrastructure.

SURA promotes cross-institutional collaboration to address complex scientific and technological challenges that no single institution can tackle alone. The organization manages the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy, and leads strategic initiatives in areas such as nuclear physics, energy science, workforce development, and emerging technologies.

Through its programs and partnerships, SURA fosters innovation, research excellence, and scientific impact across the academic, government, and private sectors.
