About

Vaping (the use of electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes) was introduced in the early 2000s as an alternative to traditional tobacco smoking.

The modern e-cigarette was invented in 2003 by Hon Lik, a Chinese pharmacist. He developed the device after his father died from lung cancer caused by smoking. His goal was to create a safer way for people to consume nicotine without burning tobacco.

The device worked by:

Heating a liquid (called e-liquid or vape juice)
Producing an aerosol (often mistakenly called “vapor”)
Delivering nicotine without combustion
