The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) evaluated the process and concluded that "the process could have significant commercial potential; the process will have wide commercial appeal. There would be a ready demand for the full range of products that could be manufactured without having to do extensive market development work, and the market is easily large enough to absorb all the products that can be made by this process.” They also concluded, "If successful, the energy impact of the invention would be significant. It would make possible converting millions of scrap tires into useful fuels and highway paving compounds that would have a higher value to society than burning the tires. The fuels and highway paving compounds produced would displace the crude oil currently used to produce these fuels and compounds. Reclaiming about a billion barrels of used motor oil that is presently not reclaimed would have a significant energy impact.”
