About

Sweets Kendamas was founded in 2010 when Matthew ‘Sweets’ Jorgenson discovered the traditional Japanese toy in a skiing video. At that time there were no retail locations in the US selling kendamas, and after being disappointed by the quality of the products he received from ordering overseas, he began to sand and repaint his own. Business partners Gabriel Klemm and Matthew Paulsen joined Matt and in 2011, and Sweets Kendamas moved from their backyard shed to a paint shop in Bloomington, MN, eventually opening a retail location on-site. The company moved to a new space in Minneapolis in 2017 to have a more centralized headquarters. Sweets Kendamas hosts the largest kendama competition in North America annually at the Mall of America called the Minnesota Kendama Open.
