About |
Train Hunters Club is a community-driven program designed to help children—especially those on the autism spectrum—turn their passion for trains into confidence, connection, and real-world skills.
Founded by Brian Gaugler (“Pops”) and inspired by his 6-year-old grandson Ezra, the club began with a simple daily question:
“Pops… can we go Train Hunting today?”
What started as a grandfather and grandson bonding over trains has grown into a meaningful experience for families across the Houston area. Ezra’s ability to hear trains before anyone else and recognize patterns others miss highlighted something powerful—what many see as a limitation can actually be a strength.
Train Hunters Club was created to give children a place where they can feel that strength.
Through structured train-spotting adventures, members develop observation skills, confidence, and social interaction in a safe and engaging environment. The club brings together families who are looking for positive, real-world activities that encourage learning and belonging.
Membership includes:
• Train Hunters adventure badges children can earn
• A Train Tracker journal to log discoveries and observations
• A fun, educational publication delivered throughout the year
• Invitations to meetups and train hunting events
• Opportunities to build friendships and confidence
At a recent gathering, more than 30 people came together—demonstrating the strong demand for a community like this.
Train Hunters Club is built on a simple mission:
To help children turn their interests into confidence and community.
To expand access, the club invites both individuals and businesses to sponsor children who may not otherwise be able to participate. Sponsorships help cover materials, events, and resources so that every child has the opportunity to be part of the experience.
This is more than a train club.
It’s a place where children feel seen, capable, and connected.
