Founded in 1949, UCP of Metropolitan Detroit (UCP/Detroit) is one of over 100 affiliates of United Cerebral Palsy. UCP/Detroit is Southeast Michigan’s source for information & referral and services for individuals with disabilities, their families and friends. We work to advance the independence of all people with any physical, mental or emotional limitation that society calls a "disability" and to secure their right to self-determination and inclusion.
UCP/Detroit provides information and referral services, employment program (Work Incentive Planning Assistance), individual and family support services (Person Centered Advocacy), community inclusion and independent living supports and community education.
More than 65% of the people served by UCP/Detroit have a disability other than cerebral palsy. These include spinal cord injuries, visual disabilities, learning disabilities and other disabilities that affect daily living.
UCP/Detroit is consistently recognized as one of the most efficient charitable organizations in the United States by several publications, including The Chronicle of Philanthropy. More than 85 cents of every dollar raised is used to provide programs and services for people with disabilities.
