About

Our Mission:
Vie Water is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing clean drinking water to people in Haiti and other developing countries.  Vie Water is committed to serving communities in a manner that empowers them to grow and develop into their full potential.

The Need:
Visualize a thirsty nation trudging through floods of contaminated water. Located one hour by plane from Miami in the Caribbean, Haiti has become the most impoverished country in the entire western hemisphere with nearly 80% of the population below the poverty line and 60% without access to clean drinking water (75% in rural areas). Families are forced to walk hours a day to drink from public water holes or government spigots. These are the same places hundreds of people bathe and wash laundry. Consequently, waterborne diseases run rampant and thousands of people die every year. In certain slums, Haitians resort to eating dirt in the form of mud cakes in order to suppress hunger and stay alive. These mud cakes cause dysentery, diarrhea, and dehydration.

Meeting the Need:
We drill sustainable wells in communities in great need, such as orphanages and rural villages.  One Vie Water well provides clean drinking water for 500 people for decades.  Additionally, through education campaigns about sanitation and hygiene, we promote health and growth in the community. We also work to raise global awareness of the water crisis and find environmentally conscious approaches to solving it.

About the Founder:
Our founder, Mickelson Civil, an honors graduate from Florida State's Film School, knows firsthand the effects of days without water. Growing up in Citè Soleil, the poorest area in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, Mickelson was constantly ill due to contaminated water. He also suffered the loss of friends and family by waterborne diseases. In 2005, Procter & Gamble commissioned Mickelson to do a commercial on a water purification product which reconnected him to the water crisis that overshadows lives in Haiti. Mickelson is dedicated to making sure children in Haiti and other developing nations have clean drinking water.

Our Hope:

We aim to build five wells each year.  Our first well will be drilled this summer at an orphanage in Ouatamine, Haiti. We will share our drilling process with all of our donors through a video documentary of each project.  We want you to experience seeing your generosity change lives and then see your well save a community.

Sponsor a well!  It costs $5,000-$8,000 to build one well.  We extend the request for your contribution toward well construction.
