About

Wings of Love International, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, officially opened March 23, 2010 when it’s President & Founder, Denise O’Brien, met personally with Secretary of State Debra Bowen in Sacramento to file articles of incorporation.  Wings of Love International’s (WOLI) Board of Directors was formed in January 2010 after O’Brien fulfilled a lifelong dream to make a difference in the lives of those affected by abuse, providing services that would educate and inform families about abuse and domestic violence prevention. The current board also includes: Vice President, Carrie Marcelletti, of El Segundo; Secretary, Connie Trageser of Pleasanton;  and Treasurer, Alan Rubin of West Los Angeles.

The Board of Directors and Advisory Board of WOLI hosted its Grand Opening during Domestic Violence Awareness month, on October 29th, 2010 at the new International Headquarters in Los Angeles, CA.  The headquarters includes a network of state-of-the art computers, servers, and Google-voice phone systems that provide unlimited international connections for board members and WOLI volunteers around the world. The  424.224.WINGS international hotline number is also manned from the International Headquarters by O’Brien and other WOLI volunteers.
O’Brien’s current focus is on increasing volunteer support, publicity, corporate and personal donations and funding for WOLI, whose mission is to empower, educate and inspire a pathway from abuse to emotional health, wholeness, and abundance. “I wanted to create an organization that would allow people from every socio-economic class to have access to services that would help them when confronted with any type of abuse or domestic violence issue. So many families are hurting because of the economy, which creates more stress and violence in homes,” stated O’Brien.
“We are committed to educating families about domestic violence and abuse prevention throughout the world.  Our panel of speakers presents monthly Abuse Awareness Workshops throughout the area, and our goal is to translate these trainings into many languages so that we can present in other countries through our International Speakers’ Bureau.  Abuse and violence among teens is growing at an alarming rate in the United States. WOLI is currently interviewing and educating teens and adults interested in presenting any phase of our Workshop Series. Due to the popularity of Facebook and social media, Wings Of Love International, Inc. already has nearly 600 supporters in 15 different countries.
O’Brien, a single mother of three children, a former Ms. Santa Monica and Miss California International, has been a business owner for over 24 years. She has also worked with and on behalf of women for decades, earning many community service awards.  Since high school she has been involved with numerous organizations, including the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Agnew’s State Mental Hospital, Girl Scouts of America, the Olympic Games, the American Legion, the Santa Monica Jaycees, Business and Professional Women, Loyola Marymount University, Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society, and Mary Kay, Inc.
Even in the early stages of incorporation, WOLI board members were making a difference.  Advisory Board member Cathleen Rosenberg travelled with O’Brien to Sacramento to participate in Legislative Action Day 2010, sponsored by the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV) in March  2010. During two days of legislative meetings, rallies, and appearances by some of California’s most influential policymakers, including Secretary of State Debra Bowen, Senators Leland Yee, Abel Maldonado and Jenny Oropeza, Assemblymembers Fiona Ma and Cameron Smyth, and others, O’Brien and Rosenberg of WOLI made their mission clear. Together these domestic violence prevention advocates joined hundreds of others to meet with lawmakers to defend the safety of California families.
