About

Under the large glass roof inside Hotel Kungsträdgården, Brasserie Makalös has been housed since 2015.

Brasserie Makalös is a classic French brasserie where everything from wine to music is sourced from the country in the south. In the unique room with magnificent ceiling height, the feeling of sitting in a courtyard in Provence is palpable.

Brasserie Makalös opened in 2015 and is run by the team behind Hotel Kungsträdgården. Welcome to Brasserie Makalös for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Or, Bienvenue!

The brasserie gets its name from the Makalös Castle, which was located at the King's Garden in the 17th century. The building was built by the French-born field lord Jakob De la Gardie between the years 1635-1643 and burned down in 1825. The palace, which rested on 18,000 wooden stilts, was five stories high with a gazebo at the top. It was built of brick and stone and had a copper roof with four towers and a staircase down to the water.

Architecturally and in terms of size, the building lacked equivalents in Sweden, hence it became known under the popular name "Makalös", with which they wanted to express something unique, magnificent, unusual and without equivalent. The dining room was one of the palace's magnificent halls. It was the largest and noblest room on the ground floor in the form of a square hall, where the eye-catcher was a large and stately stove.
