About

For over 50 years, Calico Cottage has been the gold standard for the most delicious fudge anywhere. As a family owned and operated company, Calico has a deep tradition of fostering a tightly knit organization whose culture promotes values-based business practices and integrity.

While we didn’t invent fudge, fudge is our only business and we’ve spent nearly 50 years and 3 generations perfecting the Calico Cottage Fudge Retailing Program.  Our retail customers tell us that fudge is often one of the top three items in their stores, in terms of profit margins.

Mark Wurzel, President and CEO

Mark is honored to follow in the footsteps of his father by leading Calico Cottage. When he joined the company in 1974 after earning his MBA from Cornell University, Calico Cottage had just four employees and was struggling financially. Mark’s vision and leadership have turned the company around. During his 22 years as CEO, sales have tripled. He is a devoted husband, father and grandfather and holds a patent for the Whirzle frozen fudge drink. Peanut butter chocolate is his favorite flavor of fudge.

Larry Wurzel, Vice President

Larry is all about innovation and customer connection. He has expanded the number of fudge flavors to more than 200 and developed sucrose free fudge for diabetics. Larry is great at creating tasty add-in ingredients, and he developed our program to bring fudge to fairs and festivals. He joined Calico Cottage in 1977, after he received his master’s from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is always happy to share his favorite flavor of fudge, banana nut, with his wife, son and two stepdaughters.

Michael Lobaccaro, Chief Financial Officer

Michael is Calico Cottage’s fearless numbers cruncher. After a decade as vice president of finance at Bellco Health, a pharmaceutical wholesaler, he joined Calico Cottage in 2009. He is a specialist in finance and tax matters, holds an MBA from Hofstra University and has more than 25 years of corporate experience. Michael is delighted to be working for a company that makes mouth-watering fudge. His favorite flavors are cookies and cream, anything with chocolate, and banana, which he describes as “phenomenal.”

Tom Montoya, Senior Vice President of Operations and Technology

What top-quality ingredients are to Calico’s fudge, Tom is to our day-to-day operations: absolutely essential. He oversees Calico’s fudge production, making sure everything that emerges from our factory is consistently of the highest quality, while also shepherding the Technology for Calico Cottage. Tom has more than 20 years of leadership experience with the U.S. Coast Guard, Astoria Bank, and Career Education Corporation. He has a master’s degree from New York University and will do anything for a slab of peanut butter chocolate fudge.
