We are a small group of passionate folks who love fermented grape juice. Perhaps we didn't get enough juice as kids or maybe we just love clinkin’ glasses with friends and getting in touch with our inner wine dork. We love white wine. We love red wine. We love wines in-between.
We have been around a while (some of us more than others) learning the ins and outs of the wine business through working for some great wine people (and a few duds). In that time, we have learned where to look (and not look) for hidden jewels that don‘t crack the swine- shaped bank. So, after a number of years sharing these insder tips with our friends, we decided to expand our social circle and launch CellarThief with a few simple ideas of offering a place where wine lovers could:
-Select great wines that are interesting and delicious
-Buy those wines at prices that couldn’t be found elsewhere
-Not have to deal with the annoying stuffiness of weird wine descriptors
-Trust that their wines would be well taken care of every step of the way
-Learn a bit each day about wine, and, more importantly, what wines they like best
-Be delighted by a customer experience that is second to none
How we select our wines...
Through decades of working with wineries, distributors and importers we have met a few folks who know a few folks who know a few folks. Those folks are now sharing with us great wines that they know our customers will love.
Our dentists don't like us very much because every time we come in to get our teeth buffed and polished, they have turned a darker shade of red. You see, it takes a lot of swirling and sipping to find these great little wines at prices we are proud to offer to you. Thankfully, we have the whole swirl, sniff, taste, spit thing down so we can still operate heavy machinery like this website --but it takes a lot to find these great wines.
All wine for sale on CellarThief has been tasted and tested and prodded so that we can be proud to offer good wine to you. All wines are ready to please, are from top wineries and are well priced on top of all of it.
How it works...
We are wine geeks ourselves, but even we get overwhelmed by aisles and aisles of labels or wine lists with hundreds of pages. We believe that you look to us to help pick through the clutter to find great wines at great prices. So, at any one time, we only sell three different wines:
Wine #1 is priced for more special occasions (even if that special occasion is a Friday night with a good flick and your favorite pizza on your couch).
Wine #2 is priced to be an everyday wine.
Wine #3 is any price, but is quite different in some way.
We turn wine back into water...
At CellarThief we know how important it is to drink. We are lucky to be able to drink great wines from passionate winemakers. We also are passionate that all people should be able to drink well and enjoy clean water.
There are nearly a billion people in the world that struggle to find enough clean water to simply keep themselves healthy – that is 1 in 8 people. In fact, 42,000 people die every week from a lack of clean, safe water, with 90% of those deaths being children 5 years old or younger.
We decided to walk the talk and do our own small part to make a difference. We have partnered with some wonderful people who are dedicating their lives to providing access to clean water for people worldwide. So, for every bottle of wine we sell we donate water so good folks around the world can have the benefit of clean water. As we sell more, we donate more. And, if we sell out of a wine the Bounty is awarded and we donate even more!

The biggest measure of our success is the happiness of each and every one of our customers. In our effort to constantly evolve so that you fall more and more in love with us (ah...how sweet), all we ask is that we have a two way street -- tell us what you love and tell us what you don’t. Together, we’ll create the wine shop that you love and we'll get better and better at getting you the very wines you want to drink at the very prices you can afford. So, don’t hesitate to reach out for us.
