About |
ClearSteps today announced its official launch as India's first CBSE exam preparation platform built entirely on artificial intelligence. The platform uses AI to analyze over a decade of CBSE examination data to identify high-probability topics — helping Class 10 students prepare smarter rather than harder ahead of their board examinations.
ClearSteps launches at a critical moment for Indian students. With over 26 lakh students having appeared for CBSE Class 10 board examinations in 2026 and approximately 5 lakh students registered for the CBSE Class 10 Improvement Examination scheduled for May 15 2026 — the platform addresses one of the most urgent and time-sensitive needs in Indian education today.
A Platform Built on AI From the Ground Up
Unlike conventional edtech platforms that digitize traditional teaching methods, ClearSteps is architected entirely around artificial intelligence. The platform's core engine analyzes ten years of CBSE past papers to identify question patterns, topic frequency, and competency-based question variants — providing students with a data-driven roadmap for their preparation rather than a generic study plan.
"Rote learning got us here. It will not get our children where they need to go," said Mallikarjun K, Founder of ClearSteps. "The CBSE examination has followed consistent patterns for over a decade. Our AI sees those patterns with a precision that no human teacher working from a textbook can match. We are not replacing the teacher — we are giving every student the unfair advantage that only toppers had until now."
The platform specifically addresses the introduction of Competency-Based Questions in CBSE examinations — a significant shift in the board's assessment framework that caught many students and educators off guard in 2026. ClearSteps' AI engine is trained to identify and practice CBQ variants across all subjects — directly targeting the area where students lost the most marks this examination season.
Founded By a Seasoned Product Builder
ClearSteps was founded by Mallikarjun K — a product builder with 18 years of experience developing technology solutions for Fortune 500 companies in the United States before returning to India in 2018.
"I spent nearly two decades watching the global job market transform completely — and watching education systems fail to keep up," said Mallikarjun K. "I built products for some of the largest companies in the world. Now I am building for the most important market there is — India's children and the parents who sacrifice everything for their future."
Mallikarjun's journey with education is deeply personal. A self-described curious student who didn't fit the rote learning system — he found his own path through observation, experimentation and self-directed learning. YouTube, the internet, and 18 years of building products gave him what school never could — the ability to learn anything, fast.
"I built ClearSteps for the kid I was at 15," said Mallikarjun. "The one sitting in class afraid to ask questions. The one memorising answers to questions they didn't understand — because nobody showed them a better way. That kid is everywhere in India right now. And they deserve better tools."
Reimagining Education For the AI Age
ClearSteps is built on a fundamental belief that the Indian education system must evolve to prepare students for a future defined by artificial intelligence, abstraction and self-directed learning.
The platform's vision extends beyond exam preparation. ClearSteps aims to build a suite of AI-driven products that address the full spectrum of learning — from reducing the administrative burden on teachers so they can focus on human connection, to offering courses that prepare students for skills not yet taught in any school curriculum.
"The most dangerous thing happening in Indian education right now is not that students are failing exams," said Mallikarjun K. "It is that students are passing exams and still not being prepared for the world they are walking into. ClearSteps is our answer to that — starting with the most immediate and urgent problem first."
The world our children are entering looks nothing like the one their parents navigated. Rote learning, memorisation and singular career paths are giving way to abstraction, AI fluency and multiple roads to success. ClearSteps is built for that world — not the one that already passed.
