Jimmy & Jenn Labit started Cotton Babies with $100 and a milk crate on a shelf in their kitchen. It grew from there to a bookshelf, then a closet, then a bedroom, then a basement and finally, in 2005, the business expanded into a small commercial space. The first retail store opened in 2006 and in 2007 moved the shipping center into a larger warehouse which doubled in size in 2008. Their focus from 2002 through 2005 was retail through Cotton Babies.
In 2005, they launched the bumGenius product line. Since its launch, bumGenius, Cotton Babies and the Labits have been mentioned or featured in major publications such as Time Magazine, Consumer Reports, The New York Times & The Wall Street Journal. Today, bumGenius is recognized as the top-rated cloth diapering system on the market.
