CHRISTMAS BEFORE THANKGIVING
Early Opening Benefits Salvation Army
Phillipsburg, NJ, November 4, 2012 - Local Christmas Tree Farm opens a week early this year to host a benefit for the Salvation Army. Perfect Christmas Tree Farm in Phillipsburg NJ and the NORWSCAP Family Success Center invite the community to a free event that is fun for the entire family, including the family dog.
The "Giving Weekend," scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18 starts at 10:00 AM and goes to 4 PM. Hayrides and free refreshments are available throughout the day. There is a juried Wreath Making Contest with cash and other prizes scheduled at noon. This contest raises money for the Salvation Army in its effort to help families in need at Christmas.
Contestants have a limited time to complete a 12-inch wreath using fresh greens and unlimited ribbon and decorations. Before and after the contest the farm provides instruction in wreath making, bow making and wreath decorating. There is a fee of $25.00 to enter the contest that benefits the Salvation Army. Perfect Christmas Tree Farm provides wreath frames and crimping machines and all supplies. All contestants keep the wreath the make.
Additionally, Perfect Christmas Tree Farm pledges $5.00 to the Salvation Army for every tree sold that weekend. "We guarantee in writing, our trees with hold their needles until the New Year, no matter when you put them up. Take good care of a Perfect Christmas tree and it will last," says Cynthia Curtis, co-owner of Perfect Christmas Tree Farm. "We dip our wreaths and garland in Wilt-Pruf, an anti-transpirant, so your greens will last, too. She recommends people start their holiday decorating before Thanksgiving. “Then the festive holidays last longer,” she believes.
This Agri-entertainment weekend is good for all ages. Young and old and in-between will find interesting things do. The weekend includes free activities, entertainment and refreshments for everyone. There are sing-along hayrides, chickens to feed, house tours, and antiques. The historic 1790's stone farmhouse is open to tour. Decorated with period furnishings and antique Christmas ornaments, it a rare look back at life in the 18th century. There are antique wagons and farm implements on display. “This is the perfect time to take family photos for your Christmas cards,” says farmer, John Curtis."The trees in the fields are in all their glory."
Mrs. Claus and her friendly dog, Santapaws are on hand to entertain. So get out of the house before the holiday rush begins and enjoy a day with a little outdoor exercise. Perfect Christmas Tree Farm is a dog-friendly farm. Bring your pet on a leash and a bag for waste.
