Festival Indonesia, an annual event held in Melbourne, is the largest Indonesian-Australian investment, trade and tourism forum in Australia. The Festival showcases the culture, tourism and talents of Indonesia. It also creates opportunities for interested parties to be informed about strategies in carrying out business in the region.
Festival Indonesia has generated strong support among the Australian and Indonesian government, business, academia and general communities. Over 200 delegates from Indonesia spanning the government and private sectors; cultural and tourism organisations; and small to medium enterprises, visit Melbourne annually to take part in Festival Indonesia. The Festival is officially recognised by the Indonesian and Australian government as an annual event to strengthen the long standing ties between the two countries on many different levels.
Prominent visitors from previous festivals include Mr. Muhammad Lutfi (former Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board), Dr. Miranda Goeltom (former Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia), The Hon. John Brumby MP (former Premier of Victoria) and H.E. Mr Jero Wacik (Minister of Culture and Tourism, Republic of Indonesia) among many more. Artists have included lead dance groups from Bali, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Sumatra and Nusa Tenggara. Each dance group staged a one-off show in Melbourne in a most colourful and spectacular concert. Local dance professionals have also displayed numerous traditional performances.
