About

Financial Literacy for Kids is a nonprofit organization committed to transforming the lives of underserved youth by equipping them with essential financial knowledge and an entrepreneurial mindset. Founded by Val Chapman, the organization’s mission is to close the financial literacy gap that disproportionately affects communities of color and low-income families.

Our programs are designed to be interactive, engaging, and practical, ensuring that students not only learn financial concepts but also understand how to apply them in real life. We cover core topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, credit management, and entrepreneurship. By starting financial education early, we empower young minds to make informed decisions that set the foundation for lifelong financial health.

One of our flagship initiatives is the BANK ON Oakland, CA Crawl, where elementary students visit real financial institutions to learn firsthand how banks operate, ask questions, and see how financial systems impact their communities. This immersive experience connects classroom lessons to real-world applications, fostering both academic success and personal confidence.

In addition to in-person events, we offer year-round programs in partnership with schools, community organizations, and financial institutions. Our students have excelled in national competitions like the Stock Market Game, earning 1st and 2nd place in the Bay Area elementary division for six consecutive seasons, proving that with the right tools, all children can thrive.

We believe financial literacy is more than just understanding money—it’s about breaking generational cycles of poverty, promoting economic equity, and inspiring future leaders. Through Financial Literacy for Kids, we aim to create a generation of financially savvy individuals who are prepared to build wealth, invest in their communities, and lead with confidence.

Join us in our mission to create lasting change, one student at a time. Together, we can empower the next generation to achieve financial freedom and economic justice for all.
