Gemstone Detective is an independent gemstone consultancy and specialist experience brand founded by GIA Graduate Gemmologist, author and photographer Kim Rix.

The business is built around trust, provenance and meaningful access to the gemstone world. It works with private clients, collectors, jewellery enthusiasts and discerning travellers who want informed, independent guidance rather than a conventional shopping tour or mass-market excursion.

From November, Kim will be based in Sri Lanka for several months, personally hosting private gemstone experiences for individuals and couples. Each experience is shaped around the guest and may include meeting trusted traders, cutters and miners, visiting working markets and mining areas, examining rough and cut stones, and gaining a clearer understanding of how gemstones are valued, negotiated and traced through the trade.

These experiences sit at the intersection of luxury travel, jewellery, craftsmanship, cultural heritage and responsible sourcing. They are designed for people seeking rare access, expert insight and a more personal connection with Sri Lanka’s gemstone story.

Kim brings a distinctive combination of gemmological expertise, field experience, authorship and professional photography. She is the creator of the Gemstone Detective book series and served for seven years as official photographer for the Scottish Gemmological Association.
