About

On a spring day in 2012, Gwyneth Morgan Griffin collapsed while running on her middle school track. She experienced a sudden cardiac arrest, and it took a bystander several minutes to begin CPR. Gwyneth suffered an unrecoverable brain injury due to the amount of time her brain was left without oxygen. Her parents, Joel and Jennifer, established the Gwyneth’s Gift Foundation (GGF) in 2015 to honor their daughter, who died one month after her 13th birthday. With a mission to raise awareness of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), GGF is the only organization in Virginia to provide Hands-Only CPR and AED Training and AED placements for free. Since 2016, GGF has helped over 19,000 individuals learn how to perform hands-only CPR and use an AED, and placed approximately 110 AEDs in schools, community centers, businesses and public spaces. Through its free AED Placement program

In 2019, GGF formally added its Awareness Program, which acknowledges our continuous quest to partner with civic groups, local EMS, grassroots organizations, and private businesses to bring awareness of a bystander’s ability to save a life. A vital component of our Awareness program is to educate the community on the fact that sudden cardiac arrest can occur at any age. Gwyneth’s parents formed GGF after they advocated for Gwyneth’s Law in Virginia, which requires training for students and teachers and placement of AEDs in schools. GGF has also awarded yearly scholarships since 2016 to deserving Stafford County high school graduates who embody Gwyneth’s virtues – compassion, service, leadership, determination, and acceptance.

The Gwyneth’s Gift Foundation (GGF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, imagines a world where everyone will take action in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest…a world where everyone can save a life! GGF’s mission is to raise awareness of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). We do this through our free AED Placement, Hands-Only CPR and AED Training, and Awareness Programs. Our vision is to create a Culture of Action where communities are educated, confident and empowered to save the lives of individuals suffering from cardiac arrest.
