The development of an advanced production system for protein recovery:
A novel, patented, fully automated system for recovery of native proteins from vegetable waste streams was developed and build. After realization of a small unit for recovering several kg/day, a large unit was build for recovering several ktons/year. The units comply with cGMP, GAMP4 and USP Class VI regulations and guidelines.


The development of a miniature, disposable, wireless sensor for aqueous systems:
Based on a recently filed patent which covers a new measuring principle for on line monitoring of concentrations of many aqueous species, a new product is currently under development.


Development of a new analytical tool for monitoring of bioethanol production:
In innovative device was developed that allows for user friendly and fast screening of e.g. new yeast species for the production of (bio)ethanol. The systems allows for full control of six simultaneous yeast fermentations (see also Alcohol Fermentation Monitor).


Aqueous Electrolytes Solver:
An advanced simulation tool was developed that allows for performing complex equilibrium calculations on aqueous phase systems containing many (biological) components. Both a gas phase and solid formation are incorporated. The software was developed with a very user-friendly user interface. Specialist knowledge of numerical modeling, thermodynamics or setting up balance equations is not required (see also AESolve).


Development of a robotic camera system for use in Green Houses:
A web-based tool was developed that allows for taking high-resolution pictures of growing crops in greenhouses. The system comprises of a remotely controlled (both manual and automatic) robotic arm and a high-resolution camera. Pictures can be inspected on-line. Moreover, movies can automatically be generated, which provides insight in plant behavior that could otherwise no be detected. With image recognition software is it possible to obtain plant dimensions automatically.

Development of an on-line Ion Chromatograph for use in Greenhouses:
A fully automated on-line ion chromatograph was developed for the world leader of greenhouse automation product. The system is able to analyze all main ionic species present in drain water, which determine growth and well being of greenhouse vegetables and plants.


Development of a Dynamic Simulator for Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) Technology:
Chromatographic separation is one of the most important techniques for purification of biological components, such as enzymes, proteins, sugars, amino acids etc. Where chromatographic separation is intrinsically a batch process, SMB technology allows for continuous chromatographic separation. HaloteC developed a dynamic simulation model that can be used for dimensioning of SMB systems or operator training. It involves finding solutions to complex and large sets of partial differential equations.


Development of Wrapper Software for Metrohm Ion Chromatograph Analytical Software:
Wrapper and scheduler software was developed that allows users to take samples from several running fermentations and perform analyses of specific (organic) ions from the fermentation broth. Data is stored in a database and MS Excel reports are conveniently generated automatically.


DCS Information Software with Performance Indicator Wizard:
For a large producer of fine chemicals, a data gathering system was developed which collects all factory information (as provided by a Yokogawa DCS system). These historic process data is subsequently made available via the company's local network. The system includes advanced visualization tools, export possibilities to MS Excel and a performance indicator wizard.


Invention of a Fermentative Capacity Meter:
A new analytical tool was developed and tested (TU Delft/ DSM) that allows for rapid screening of yeast quality. The apparatus involves an innovative measuring technique that requires only small amounts of a yeast suspension.
