Unique Workshop for Friends, Families and Professionals Working with People Who Hoard

There are ten warning signs that your loved one may have a hoarding problem, according to Dr. Michael Tompkins of the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy.  Examples include neglected home repairs, parts of the house “off limits” with blinds drawn, failure to pay bills on time or at all, and/or not letting friends or family touch or borrow possessions.

The popularity of television shows such as Hoarders, Hoarding: Buried Alive, Enough Already with Peter Walsh, and Clean House suggests a growing awareness and concern for this emerging crisis.  Friends and family of those who hoard are the most neglected and abused casualties of hoarding disorder.

Dr. Regina Lark and veteran Professional Organizer Leslie Haber have designed an intensive one-day workshop to provide resources and strategies for friends and families of people who hoard as well as those professionals who work with those who hoard.

As professional organizers in Los Angeles specializing in hoarding, OCD, and the chronically disorganized, Lark and Haber recognize the growing need to provide understanding, education and assistance to those with a person who hoards in their lives.  Their goal as facilitators of this increasingly popular workshop is to help friends, family members and professionals take correct, sensible steps in improving relationships with their loved one and to become a viable support system using “harm reduction” techniques all the while maintaining healthy boundaries and self-care.

Haber and Lark, both board members on the Los Angeles Chapter of NAPO, The National Association of Professional Organizers (http://www.napola.org) are veteran professional organizers.  They frequently work with their clients’ therapists and doctors, and are familiar and experienced in all aspects of extreme hoarding including the enormous impact hoarding has on family and friends.

In addition to family members and friends, Lark and Haber encourage therapists, social workers, caregivers, and professionals who work with seniors to attend the workshop. CEU Certificate of Completion provided.
