About

After spending her formative years in Southern California, Rebecca Hyde returned to her home state of Colorado in 1990 and established a successful career in graphic design. She has since earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, completing her studies in fine art in 2005. Rebecca possesses a strong arsenal of mixed-media techniques for expressing her artistic vision. Ultimately, creative concept dictates the medium: acrylic, oil, pen and ink, fused and stained glass, ceramic, encaustic, metalwork, and fiber art.

I am a process-oriented artist.  Although I get a satisfaction from the finished work, I am most enthralled as I plan and create each piece.  Much of the work is emotionally charged and drawn from deeply personal experiences as well as observations of the human condition.  Through my art, I am able to be honest with myself and my audience with a vulnerability that does not come naturally to me in any other form.

In my pursuits of conveying themes such as suffering, dichotomies, passion, relationships and hope, I do not restrict myself to one medium.  I am naturally attracted to multiple artistic disciplines and choose the media according to the concept.  I have found a creative home in mixed-media.

Two things make my life worth living — relationships and creating art.  My artistic intention involves the latter.

Expression, therapy and productivity culminate in an end result — a piece of artwork.  It is this process that gives me a sense of purpose and belonging.  Therefore, it becomes crucial for me to create a life that supports this process.

The most important aspect of this desired creative lifestyle is to have the flexibility of time, workspace and media to meet the needs of the actual art projects as they arise.  For example, if the concept demands the use of ceramic and fused glass elements, I will have access to materials and kilns;  or if a piece needs to be a large painting, I will have adequate studio space to accomplish it properly.

I continue to contrive ways to enable this creative lifestyle.  My options include graphic design, teaching, commissions, various freelance projects and, ideally, exhibition and sales of my artwork.
