About

Before we dive into explaining the web design business that Jarryd Fillmore owns, lets start off with some brief history of the beginnings.

When Jarryd Fillmore was nearing the end of his highschool career -- he, like many other students, needed to figure out what he was going to do for the rest of his life. He loved communications technology class, in which Photoshop played a big role. Since Jarryd Fillmore loved playing around in Photoshop, and figured that the Internet was not going away any time soon, he decided to jump into the world of website design and website development.

Jarryd Fillmore attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a 4.0 GPA. He took the course called Multimedia Design, in which case he received an advanced diploma. Jarryd Fillmore ended up attending the University of Minnesota with his four friends - Bill, Frank, Steve and Jim. They all went to high-school together and simply ended up at the same college. During college, he studied very hard and even worked on side projects to perfect his craft. He would constantly attend networking meetings on top of going to school, and on top of having a part time job. He wanted to get extremely good at designing and building websites. He also wanted to become good at doing print work and digital marketing as well.

When he graduated from the University of Minnesota, he decided to move back to his home country, Canada. However when he moved back to Canada, he realized that the main tech market in Toronto was extremely competitive. He needed some better, higher quality work in his portfolio if he ever wanted to get his foot in the door with any companies doing full time or contract work.

The plan that Jarryd Fillmore had was to start contacting companies and doing their websites for free, as he was in need of improving the quality of his portfolio. So, he did exactly that. Jarryd Fillmore started contacting charities and non-for-profit organizations to see if they needed their websites upgraded. However he did not send off random e-mails and phone calls without strategy. He put together a list of companies that were in a specific niche and that had websites that were not responsive. Responsive web design essentially means that your website is not mobile or tablet-friendly, which is a big no-no as this is an important Google ranking factor.

He had a couple of bites and decided to design and build some of the not-for-profit charity websites. With great success he made clients extremely happy, due to the quick turnaround and efficiency of the web design process.

Now that Jarryd Fillmore had a couple of great looking and great functioning websites under his belt, he decided to attend some networking events. At first, Jarryd Fillmore was a little uneasy as he did not know what to expect. He wasn't sure how people would react since this was his first networking meeting. However to the surprise of Jarryd Fillmore, people were extremely nice and interested in what he did -- which was designing and developing amazing websites.

He struck a deal with a medium sized business which specialized in granite. This company was based in Hamilton Ontario, so it was fairly local. After the site was designed and developed by Jarryd Fillmore, the granite company was blown away by how quickly and efficiently he was able to finish their website. Not only was he able to code this site responsively on top of a WordPress theme (which can be very difficult), but he was able to get it done within one week -- which is generally unheard of.

Since this was originally a side business, he decided to stop networking for a while and focus on his family and full time work. However, to his surprise, this granite company from Hamilton was so happy with the work he did, that the referrals started to roll in. Another  granite company was interested in designing and building a website, and other business started to take interest too. When all was said and done, he was so busy with work that he couldn't keep up with the demand. He ended up quitting his full-time job and pursuing a career in full-time, freelance web design and development.

Jarryd Fillmore went from designing and building websites at agencies, to branching out on his own. He's become very successful at what he does, and the best part is that he can work from anywhere in the world.
