About

Jill Andrews Gowns opened its doors in 2009 with the intent and inspiration to bring a new concept in dressmaking to the Baltimore/DC area. Jill Andrews and Sara Mathes have partnered to bring to life an atelier focused on excellence in design, craft and customer service. Each gown is custom made on the premises to reflect the wearer’s personality and preferences.

Both Jill and Sara have a shared appreciation for the history of fashion, the craft of dressmaking and the art of design. Jill began working in the bridal industry in London after graduating from FIT in 1989. Since then, she has created gowns for clients ranging from British royalty to soap opera characters. She has been in Baltimore for over 20 years splitting her time between being the master Draper at Center Stage and designing custom gowns. Now focused on the custom industry, Jill finds inspiration creating timeless pieces that pay homage to the rich traditions of the past and reflect the personality of the women who wear them.

Sara began working as a seamstress with Jill in 2007 after returning to Baltimore from San Diego. While in California, Sara defected from the ranks of the banking industry, graduated from Mesa College with a degree in Fashion Design and completed an internship with British designer Zandra Rhodes. Sara and Jill quickly forged a collaborative working relationship and a friendship from which Jill Andrews Gowns was born.
