About |
The Kopp Foundation for Diabetes (KFD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to amplify youth voices in the fight against Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Led by students and supported by scientists, educators, and community leaders, KFD empowers young people to become advocates, innovators, and changemakers.
Our mission is to advance awareness, research, and access to care for individuals and families affected by diabetes. KFD is structured around four key pillars:
*Youth Leadership & Training – Building the next generation of advocates and entrepreneurs through leadership academies, campus chapters, and mentorship programs.
*Community Screenings & Awareness – Expanding access to free diabetes screenings, education workshops, and awareness campaigns that directly serve local communities.
*Innovation & Research – Supporting youth-driven scientific projects, including non-invasive glucose monitoring and regenerative medicine, to advance diabetes technology.
*Access to Care & Support – Providing scholarships, resources, and direct support for families struggling with the cost of insulin, continuous glucose monitors, and essential supplies.
KFD has already launched youth-led chapters at universities including UCLA, UCSD, Pitt, Temple, and UMass Amherst, with more campuses joining nationwide. By mobilizing passionate students, the foundation ensures that youth voices are central to the conversation about diabetes solutions.
Through fundraising events, sponsorships, and partnerships, KFD invests in programs that not only improve health outcomes but also create sustainable change by placing youth leadership at the forefront.
Our vision is clear: a future where every young person has the tools, knowledge, and support to lead the fight against diabetes — and where families everywhere can access the care they need.
