About

Luang Prabang Half Marathon was founded in 2012 by Michael Gilmore. It is subsequently sustained by a group of volunteers, local committee members, with the aim to drive donations and support local community projects in this UNSECO heritage town.

18 Oct 2015 is the 3rd year running. Unique among Asia's destination races, the local community and its supporters pay for the race costs, so that the majority of the money raised by runners - including their race fees - can go to supporting local projects.

This year, 3 projects have been chosen. One is the Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC), by Friends Without A Border, bringing desperately needed high-quality and compassionate healthcare to the children of northern Laos.

The second is Eau Laos Solidarité (ELS) & the Girls’ Hygiene Empowerment Project. Eau Laos Solidarité (ELS) is a grassroots organization that supports hygiene projects in Laos schools.

The third is Big Brother Mouse project. This is a Lao-based, Lao-owned project since 2006. The project aims to publish books and make literacy fun in Lao villages.
