About

With an extensive repertoire derived from the rich folk traditions of Ireland, England and Scotland along with his own original songs, Martyn Wylde continues the legacy of the Bards of old. Accompanying himself on guitar, bouzouki and mandolin, Martyn's pure tenor voice and three octave range combine with his multi-instrumental talent to form a truly unique folk instrument, bringing new life to material which is sometimes hundreds of years old. “I’m a storyteller as much as I am a musician. Each country has it’s own collection of folk songs, reflecting the history and belief systems of a people. I enjoy sharing the history behind the songs.”

In 2009 Martyn recorded Minstrel's Lament featuring traditional, contemporary and original material. It is a true solo album; Martyn played all the instruments and sang both lead and harmony vocals, in addition to writing four of the songs and engineering the recordings. Selections from this album have been featured on Celtic Radio, Radio Airplay, Spotify and on the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast.

A new single, Silent Night, has just been released to conincide with the Holiday Season. It is available on iTunes and CD Baby.

Martyn is currently recording two new albums - Celtic Heart, with producer Bill Cruz and The Child Ballads. The first will feature six original songs along with some of the traditional and contemporary songs which helped mould his style. The Child Ballads have long been considered "standards" of the British Folk genre, and Martyn is pleased to have the opportunity to interpret some of them.

Martyn performs at folk & acoustic music venues, renaissance & medieval faires, Irish, Scottish & Celtic festivals, house concerts & private/corporate events
