Our Background: A historical background of the past 52 years of automotive sales and service excellence in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Founded May 12, 1958 by Arthur K. Watson, the son of Thomas J. Watson (founder of I.B.M.), Chairman of the Board of I.B.M. World Trade and the former United States Ambassador to France under President Richard M. Nixon, Imported Cars of Greenwich, Inc. was originally located at 240 Mason Street, Greenwich, Connecticut. It then sold and serviced Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, Peugeot, M.G. and Austin Healy vehicles.

In 1963, Imported Cars of Greenwich moved to the expanded headquarters at 217 West Putnam Avenue in Greenwich in the general area known as "Automobile Row" of Southern Fairfield County. In 1965 Reginald T. Newton, coming from a long and distinguished career at Rolls-Royce, assumed ownership of the dealership, which also sold and serviced Rolls-Royce, De Lorean and BMW automobiles. Mr. Watson died in 1974.

At this time, Arthur K. ("Kitt") Watson, Jr., Arthur K. Watson's eldest son, became the sole shareholder of Greenwich Auto Repair, Inc. and a stockholder in Imported Cars of Greenwich, Inc. In 1979, he embarked upon a career move into sole ownership. In 1983, the name of Greenwich Auto Repair, Inc. was changed to Watson Enterprises, Inc. In 1984, he purchased the property at 261 West Putnam Avenue and built the 19,000 sq. foot dealership.

In addition to the 261 West Putnam property, a new building at 252 was built as the Delivery Center in 1999. Under Kitt's leadership, Mercedes-Benz of Greenwich has become and maintained its position as the largest and most successful exclusive Mercedes-Benz franchise in New England and has been recognized for both sales excellence and customer satisfaction. In both 1999 and again in 2000 it was awarded the prestigious J.D. Powers Award of Excellence.
