Midtown Sports Medicine is an orthopaedic practice catering to the individual trying to reach peak performance at any age. Personalized treatment programs, both surgical and conservative in nature, are tailored for each patient.

Eric Furie MD, is the physician practitioner at Midtown Sports Medicine, guaranteeing that the continuity of care will not be interrupted. Personal relationships with one's doctors are important to all of us. At Midtown Sports Medicine we value your personal information and time and strive to attain your confidence and trust.

Arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and ankle, and arthroplasty (joint replacement) of the hip, knee and shoulder are the common procedures performed at Midtown Sports Medicine, but we also treat a myriad of injuries with non-operative treatments including physical therapy, orthotics and pharmaceutical interventions, i.e. oral pills or injections. Dr. Furie currently is seeing patients in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at 8 A.M., and operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Dr. Furie operates at 5 locations - Atlanta Medical Center, Piedmont Hospital, Northside Hospital, The Atlanta Outpatient Surgery Center and The Perimeter Surgery Center of Atlanta.

Dr. Eric Furie is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, with special interest and extensive experience in joint replacement and trauma surgery.   Dr. Furie conducts surgery at Piedmont Hospital, Northside Hospital. Atlanta Outpatient Surgery Center and Atlanta Medical Center, where he was the Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery from 2007 -2009.

Dr. Furie attended classes and studied at Harvard, Columbia, Bard College, Stony Brook, The City College of New York and The University of Buffalo. He has also held research positions at The Mount Sinai Hospital of New York and The University of Cincinnati. Impressively, Dr. Furie completed medical school at only 24 years of age.

After medical school, Dr. Furie did a five year residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in Orthopaedic Surgery.  Immediately after his residency, Dr. Furie did a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship with Frank Noyes, MD at the Cincinnati Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center.  This extra intensive training focused on sports injuries, arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction and other related procedures of the hip, knee, ankle and shoulder.  

Dr. Furie’s surgical practice is comprised of arthroscopy of the shoulder, knee and ankle, and joint replacement of the shoulder, hip and knee. He also has extensive experience in orthopaedic trauma surgery involving pelvic and acetabular fractures, in addition to complex extremity fractures.

Dr. Furie is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).   Dr. Furie is a highly experienced surgeon, clinician, and researcher,  and regularly instructs orthopaedic surgical residents at Atlanta Medical Center.

Dr. Furie has treated athletes of all ages, at all skill levels, and has had great success at getting everyone from weekend warriors to professional athletes back to the playing field throughout his surgical career.

Dr. Furie, a former college rugby and lacrosse player, and well rounded athlete, has a special empathy for his patients having had multiple surgical procedures of his own.  He knows what it is to face surgery, and having walked in the shoes of many of his patients, he has that special extra experience to know that each patient is special, and has their own needs to be met.
