The leadership and multi-cultural congregation of New Birth Church and New Birth Latino represent a membership of 4,500 that come from as far away as Solano, San Francisco, Contra Costa, Alameda, Sacramento and San Joaquin counties to worship in Pittsburg, California. New Birth Church Oakland is another breakthrough move of God that confirms the message that Bishop Eddie Long (Bishop Smith's Spiritual Father), of New Birth in Georgia delivered in a sermon to New Birth Concord in April 2008 declaring, "In this season, you have God's full attention, your church will break forth and help usher in revival to this region".
New Birth Church West Coast led by Senior Bishop, Bishop C. Carl Smith announces the opening of New Birth Church, Oakland. Bishop Smith presides over two multi-cultural congregations in Pittsburg, CA where members from over five Bay Area counties fellowship. “We enthusiastically welcome and embrace the East Bay community. This is where I began my journey into the ministry,” Bishop Smith affirms. “Next week we celebrate in fellowship and prayer the inaugural service for New Birth Oakland. Bible Study and Prayer Service will take place on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Merritt College in the Huey P. Newton-Bobby Seale Student Lounge, Building R, 12500 Campus Drive, Oakland, CA 94619. Merritt College is accessible by public transportation from BART’s Fruitvale Station to AC Transit Bus No. 54.
Bishop Smith is known for his practical approach to the Bible, and has encouraged thousands to pursue a personal relationship with God. At New Birth we think of our church as a community of breakthrough believers with a worldwide vision that is aimed at reaching the lost, strengthening families and going beyond the walls of the church to advance the Kingdom. We are bringing in the bound, the oppressed, and the brokenhearted. We are committed to making disciples, training and raising up leaders that will impact our communities, and the world for generations to come. When Bishop Smith ministers, one realizes it is truly possible to experience the manifested presence of God. As a result the anointed Word of God is transforming lives.
Bishop Smith studied for the ministry and served in various ministry positions at Oakland Christian Center in Oakland, California from 1991-1994. He was ordained as a minister of the gospel in 1993. In 1994, he became an Assistant Pastor of Oakland Christian Center. On July 4, 1999, Bishop Smith was installed as the Senior Pastor of Ambassador Christian Fellowship located in Concord, California where he served for four years. During that time the membership grew from 15 to over 150 members.
In December of 2003, by divine appointment orchestrated by God, Bishop Smith was connected to Bishop Eddie L. Long and the relationship between father and son began. In 2004, God directed Bishop Smith to come under the covering of New Birth Church in Lithonia, Georgia, where Bishop Eddie L. Long presides as the Bishop. As a result of
this divine merger and the leadership of Bishop Smith, New Birth grew to over 800 members. In July of 2008, in another divine appointment, New Birth completed the unification of its ministries with those of Changed Life Church in Pittsburg and its Spanish Church of 150 members, now called New Birth Latino. With this synergistic -more-
move, and subsequent rapid growth, New Birth is now a multicultural church of over 4500 members. A man of vision, fulfilling his vision, in obedience to the Holy Spirit,
Bishop Smith is thoroughly convinced that God has called New Birth to "seek and save that which was lost". God has instructed him to tear down denominational and racial barriers, building a multicultural church for the Kingdom of God.
In 2005, Bishop Smith founded "In Him Embassy Ministries", which is a world wide ministry aimed at teaching, equipping and raising leaders that will impact the world with the Kingdom message. He recently released, ‘Hope That Maketh Not Ashamed’ and has also established "In Him Publishing". ‘Hope That Maketh Not Ashamed’, is a life-changing, thought-provoking book will enlighten you, strengthen you, and stir up your courage to see beyond where you are today, knowing that in Christ, you are more than a conqueror. Bishop Smith and First Lady Adrienne Smith are the proud parents of three daughters.
