New Image Promotions is the vehicle for Dancehall and Reggae artistes to establish themselves in the Industry. The company was formed in February 2005 by Sophia McKay who saw the need to create an organization that is committed to support and recruit new talents as well as proactively generate public awareness for Reggae and Dancehall artistes in general.
Sophia McKay’s experience and interest in the Reggae/Dancehall Industry can be traced back to the early 90’s where she tried to pursuit a musical career as a singer. However, she gave up on that dream to enter the corporate world. In 2000, Sophia got a job at the Sharon Burke lead, Solid Agency Company Limited where she had the privilege of working among Bounty Killer, Wayne Marshall, Vybz Kartel, Alaine Laughton, Mavada, Barrington Levy and the Kingpins of the industry throughout those years. She has been a part of the planning and production teams that produced major events such as Fullyloaded, Heineken Heatwave which featured 50 CENT, Appleton Hot Shot which featured Sean Paul, Shaggy, Junior Gong and more. Internationally Sophia assisted the production team of Atlanta base VH1 Top radio personality Frank Ski plus a series of weekly Hip-Hop/Reggae fusion which featured the likes of G. Units’s Lloyd Banks and Dancehall artistes Assassin and Bounty Killer.
Jamaica will remain the hub for Reggae and Dancehall artistes and understandably so, back in the 80’s and 90’s many artistes got over shadowed due to lack of resources and knowledge of how to get in the industry. Many potential artistes lost faith in the system and sought businesses else where and many of whom remained never made it to main stream. It was a time when the system was more controlled and the present break through artiste(s) reigned for years without end. It was from having a first hand experience of those challenges, her love for the music, experience in working within the industry and a personal need to make a significant contribution to
ensure prolonged existence of the Reggae Music Industry that New Image
Promotions was conceptualized.
